The Trail is a resource that West End uses to make sure that the ministries of the church are a part of a larger faith journey. The various ministries are designed to build upon each other so that the children will grow in spiritual maturity. Each ministry has goals geared towards their age group, which allows church to partner with the parents in a dynamic and growing relationship.
When Eugene H. Peterson named his book “A Long Obedience in the Same Direction”, he could have had The Trail in mind. Learning to follow Jesus and growing to be like Him is a progression or journey that can begin at birth and continue for a lifetime. The Trail is a visual depiction of that spiritual journey.
A series of signposts divides The Trail into sections by age groups and gives each section a name. Every section lists spiritual concepts or practices suitable for that particular age group. When someone begins their faith walk later in life, they are taught the initial spiritual concepts as a foundation for all that is to follow. The learning goals of The Trail are intended to be cumulative; each person adds to their spiritual understanding and practices as they mature.
The Trail is a resource for individuals, for churches, and for parents. Individuals can refer to The Trail to track their own growth and development. The church can use The Trail to design ministry goals for every age group. And, parents can use The Trail to design spiritual nurture for their children at home. In fact, because The Trail makes the intent of spiritual nurture so clear, it can help the church forge a dynamic partnership with parents.
West End Baptist Church embraces The Trail as a guide for making “growing disciples who take Christ’s love to lost and hurting people.”
(The Trail was inspired by the spiritual pathway Brian Haynes developed for Legacy Milestones at Kingsland Baptist Church, Katy, Texas.)
These are the trail markers at West End.

Emerge (ages 18-25)
In EMERGE, we as a body of Christ get to walk with a fabulous group of young adults. Wether they are in St. John’s for school or work, entering adulthood can be daunting. We have committed to have weekly life groups for deeper exploration of the Bible and faith as they grow together. There is a wide variety of service opportunities in the church and in the community which we encourage the young adults to be apart of.
West End also partners with Memorial University Christian Fellowship (MUNCF), which offers various small and large group activities events and outreach for students.
Invest (ages 26+)

Join us in our weekly worship service and do not miss the opportunity to be a part of a growing life groups for deeper growth and connection in the body of Christ. There are opportunities to give, lead and serve in all aspects of church life at West End.
We believe that life together is better. It is within community that we learn and grow. Watch for our Life Group listing this Fall.
